Clean Energy & Environmental Plan

Building Safer, Greener, and Healthier Communities in District 12

As your next City Council member for District 12, I believe that clean energy, healthy environments, and safe streets are essential rights for every resident—not privileges. Environmental justice means ensuring that every neighborhood, from Perkerson to Polar Rock, thrives with clean air, resilient infrastructure, and opportunities for green growth.

District 12 deserves a community-first clean energy and environmental plan that prioritizes:

  • Equity – Every community deserves equal access to clean energy and healthy environments.

  • Resilience – We must prepare for climate change by reducing risks from heat, flooding, and pollution.

  • Health – Clean energy and green infrastructure reduce disease, stress, and chronic illness.

  • Economic Growth – A sustainable city attracts investment, raises property values, and creates local green jobs.

1. Equitable Green Infrastructure

  • Ensure every resident lives within a 10-minute walk of a clean, safe, and well-lit green space.

  • Expand green-space access in under-resourced neighborhoods by developing pocket parks, community gardens, and tree-lined streets.

  • Install green stormwater systems (rain gardens, bioswales, and permeable pavement) to reduce flooding and improve water quality.

  • Protect and expand our urban tree canopy, especially near industrial corridors and high-traffic areas.

2. Clean Energy & Climate Action

  • Transition city facilities, and recreation centers to renewable energy sources like solar and geothermal.

  • Provide home energy efficiency incentives—for insulation, rooftop solar, and EV charging stations.

  • Partner with MARTA and community groups to expand clean transit options such as electric buses, bike lanes, and shaded walking routes.

  • Launch a “Cool Roofs & Cool Streets” program featuring reflective roofing, tree planting, and shaded bus stops to combat extreme heat.

3. Safe, Clean, and Connected Streets

  • Brighten neighborhoods with LED streetlights powered by clean energy.

  • Expand sidewalks, bike lanes, and crosswalks for safer, more connected walking and biking routes.

  • Crack down on illegal dumping through stricter enforcement and community-led clean-ups.

  • Promote recycling, composting, and waste reduction initiatives district-wide.

  • Support “Friends of the Street” groups to help maintain beautification, safety, and community pride.

4. Green Jobs & Youth Empowerment

  • Create a Green Jobs Corps to train and employ youth and returning citizens in tree planting, trail building, and clean energy installation.

  • Fund after-school and summer programs that use parks and green spaces for youth development and engagement.

  • Support community training programs in urban agriculture, energy efficiency, and environmental stewardship.

  • Offer micro-grants to Friends of the Park and community groups to host clean-ups, farmers markets, and cultural events.

5. Public Safety through Environment & Design

  • Partner with APD, neighborhood associations, and residents on community-led safety initiatives, including patrols and smart lighting.

  • Ensure ADA accessibility in all public spaces so seniors and residents with disabilities can move safely.

  • Implement traffic calming measures—speed humps, pedestrian signals, and safer intersections.

  • Encourage responsible pet ownership through leash laws, pet-waste stations, and educational outreach.

6. Community Engagement & Accountability

  • Launch a “People’s Park & Street Plan”—a participatory process allowing residents to co-create park and street improvements.

  • Conduct annual environmental audits tracking air quality, tree canopy coverage, and street safety, with public reporting.

  • Partner with organizations such as Park Pride, Trees Atlanta, ATL Parks & Rec, and local clean energy advocates to expand resources and funding.

  • Keep residents informed through neighborhood newsletters, yard signs, and community meetings promoting the Safe Living Streets & Clean Energy movement.
